City of London School For Girls holds the reputation of being one of the UK’s leading girls’ schools. Additionally, City of London School For Girls aims to be a school which also provides real influence and reach by emphasising pastoral development, partnerships, and co-curricular activities, as well as academic exploration.

 

City of London School For Girls offer open mornings for the 11+ school open evenings in June. Booking is required. Open evenings include a tour of the school and a Q&A session. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the visit. Details are usually published at the beginning of summer term. Further open events will take place in the autumn term.

 

In cases where one cannot attend an open evening, please arrange a small private tour with the school.

Admissions


City of London School For Girls admits 70-75 students at the 11+ stage every year. Registration for admissions is limited to 150 candidates, therefore City of London School For Girls recommends parents to register applicants as early as possible. Registration opens around 2 years prior to the date of entry. The deadline for registration is in late October prior to the academic year of entry.

 

The registration fee is £125 per candidate (excluding applicants who apply for bursaries). City of London School For Girls sends offers to successful candidates in February prior to the academic year of entry. The deadline for accepting the offer will be in early March. The acceptance deposit is £3,200.

 

City of London School For Girls 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam

The 11+ entrance exam for City of London School For Girls has two assessments. The first assessment takes place in November prior to the academic year of entry, while the second assessment takes place in January. Candidates who pass the first stage will also be required to attend an interview.

 

First Assessment

The first 11+ assessment takes place at City of London School For Girls. The format of the assessment is an one-hour computer-based test, which is designed by CEM (Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring), to assess numerical, verbal, and non-verbal skills. The second 11+ assessment, which takes place in January, consists of two subjects. One paper is a 45-minute English test, which aims to assess creative writing and analytical skills. Pupils who pass the second 11+ assessment will be invited back to City of London School For Girls for an interview.

City of London School For Girls 11 Plus (11+) Post Assessment

Offers
City of London School For Girls will send out offers to successful 11+ candidates (including scholarship and bursary offers) via email in mid-February. The offers will be unconditional. The deadline to accept offers is usually in early March.

 

Offer holders will be invited to City of London School For Girls for an offer holders’ meeting before the acceptance deadline. This gives parents a chance to ask further questions concerning student life at City of London School For Girls. Acceptance of the offer must be accompanied by a £3,200 deposit (there is no deposit for pupils who are offered bursary assistance).

Welcome Afternoon

In early May, City of London School For Girls will invite successful 11+ candidates and their parents for a welcome afternoon.

 

This serves as an opportunity for students to meet their new form group and form tutor, and to familiarise themselves with City of London School For Girls. For parents, this is a chance to mingle and ask questions to the Head of Lower School, to hear from the Chair of the City of London School For Girls parents’ organisation, and to hear from the City of London School For Girls Friends Committee.

 

There will also be an opportunity to buy school uniforms at a Second-Hand Sale.

Bursaries

Overview

City of London School For Girls offers means-tested bursaries. The means-test is assessed through successful performance in entrance exams and interviews. Only families with net income which is lower than £45,000 will be considered for a full tuition bursary.

 

Besides tuition fees, bursaries can also cover uniforms, school trips, and extracurricular activities.

 

Bursaries will be reviewed annually. Depending on the family’s income levels, City of London School For Girls can increase or decrease the value of the bursary.

 

Every year City of London School For Girls offers around 12 bursary places at the 11+ level. City of London School For Girls does not consider bursary applications when offering occasional places nor from overseas students.

Home Visit

After the completion of the second 11+ assessment and interview, City of London School For Girls finance and pastoral teams members will choose some families, who are under consideration for bursaries, for home visits.

 

Home visits often take place in early February.

 

Transition Meeting

Transition meetings will be held in the summer term for students who are joining in September with key pastoral staff and their families.
