Every September, King’s College School, Wimbledon admits 54 successful 7+ candidates into year 3. Parents must register their children as candidate on the online registration form (linked below) for their children to sit the King’s College School, Wimbledon assessments.

 

Parents must discuss their plans to enter their child to King’s College School, Wimbledon with their current school. This is because King’s College School, Wimbledon will write to the child’s current school Head to request a reference. The reference request will usually take place before the 7+ entry exams – during late September prior to the academic year of entry.

 

The deadline to completing the registration form and sending in the £150 (non-refundable*) registration fee is usually around mid-September of the academic year prior to entry. King’s College School, Wimbledon does not accept late registrations and candidates will not be considered for exams unless the registration fee is received by the deadline. There is no exception to this rule.

King’s College School, Wimbledon does not offer the option to sit the entrance exam remotely. All 7+ candidates must physically attend each assessment at the King’s College School, Wimbledon Junior School on the published date.

 

The King’s College School, Wimbledon 7+ exam has papers in English, Mathematics, and Reasoning, and a listening test. Listening Test

The 7+ Listening test lasts around 20 minutes. All 7+ candidates will hear the same recording, which would be played through King’s College School, Wimbledon’s IT network via speakers. The recording includes a short listening exercise and a final section which is based on following the instructions which are given in the recording.

 

English Test

The 7+ English test lasts for 45 minutes and is structured by two sections – Section A and Section B.

 

Section A is a comprehension test. Pupils will read a passage and answer questions by recalling and reflecting on the information.

 

Section B is a writing test. Credit will be given for good spelling, punctuation, paragraph structure, and utilising an imaginative and exciting use of vocabulary. King’s College School, Wimbledon cautions parents that irrelevant answers or pre-learned sentences will be penalised.

 

Reasoning Test

King’s College School, Wimbledon states that the Reasoning test may comprise verbal or non-verbal questions or a combination of the two.

 

Candidates are therefore advised to practice both styles of questions to gain familiarity with this style of examination.

 

Mathematics Test

The 7+ Mathematics test lasts for 45 minutes on four main topics – 1) number and the number system; 2) money, measures, shape, and space; 3) solving problems; 4) calculations. Please use the link below to see the specific types of questions within these four topics.

 

The 7+ Mathematics test is academically at the same level as the Year 2 UK National Curriculum syllabus. However, King’s College School, Wimbledon states that they offer some extension questions to challenge the able candidates.

King’s College School, Wimbledon will invite successful 7+ applicants back to the school to take part in an activity session and an interview.

 

Activity Sessions

7+ candidates will take part in a series of classroom activities and exercises with the aim of showing King’s College School, Wimbledon the different aspects of their personalities and abilities. There is no set formula to the content of the activity session and therefore, King’s College School, Wimbledon advises to avoid specific preparation.

 

The activity session usually takes place during late October of the academic year prior to entry.

 

Interview

After the activity session, 7+ candidates are required to attend a 20-minute interview. The interviews will always be conducted by a member of the King’s College School, Wimbledon Junior School staff.

 

At the 7+ stage, candidates will be interviewed in pairs. Parents will be notified of the date and time of the interview. The interview date and date cannot be rearranged.

 

The interview usually takes place from early to mid-November of the academic year prior to entry.

Outcome letters are sent to all 7+ candidates by 1st class mail. Parents will also be sent a follow up email in late November.

 

In early December, King’s College School, Wimbledon will host a tour of the school to both those who hold firm offers as well as those on the reserve list.

 

The deadline to accept the offer is usually in late January. Candidates who accept the offer are required to pay a deposit of £2,000.
